Why do Hamas & Palestinians
Consider Themselves the Victims after October 7?
During World War I, the Ottoman Empire joined the losing side. It aligned itself with and supported Germany.
The Caliphate’s decision and defeat, had unforeseen consequences. At the end of the conflict, what’s now the State of Israel, came under British administration. Today’s State of Israel exists in part, as a result of the Ottoman caliphate’s choices on the world stage.
Many Muslims saw the new situation as a major affront and unacceptable. They could not accept the existence of a government administered by non-Muslims. Certainly not in a region controlled by followers of Mohammad. Since its first conquest and colonization in the 7th century, Muslims had been in charge on and off.
Losers of WWI and aligned with Adolph Hitler during WWII, they postured as victims. They felt owed the right to dictate new terms to the War’s resolution. This included WWII and the 1967 Six Day War). Why?
Dr. Brubaker welcomes Mark Durie to Variant Quran for a discussion.
Theological reasons for Muslims’ seeming double standard connected to violence and conquest.
- Dr. Durie unpacks the deep history.
- He examines the Quran’s frame of reference, based on the life and experience of Muhammad.
Referencing the recent book by Tom Holland, Durie notes a stark difference between:
- The Christian ethic, rooted in the teaching and example of Jesus, underlying Western civilization. Better to be a victim than to be a victimizer.
- The Islamic ethic is based on Mohammad’s teaching and example. Better to be a victimizer than to be a victim.
